News

September '12: The "L" exam was tough being the weekend after Young Horse Championships. The envelope finally arrived from the USDF 2 weeks later with the news that I passed with distinction!! A couple of weekends at home then the long trip to Devon. Leo was awesome winning the FEI 5 Year Old class and the Bachelor Bowl at Devon!! Judge Stephan Clarke had some really nice comments. What a great feeling to win at such a pretigious show with some tough competition. We even finished ahead of the USEF Young Horse Championships reserve champion! I was amazed at the progress Leo made between Young Horse championships and Devon. We really had a great test! Viki and Flash clearly belonged in the 4 year old class. Congrats!

August '12: The USEF invitation for the USEF/Markel Young Horse championships arrived! Leo is in the FEI 5 Year old championships!!!Viki and Flash are the first alternates for the 4 year old championships. Huge congrats to Viki!!

August '12: The USEF invitation for the USEF/Markel Young Horse championships arrived! Leo is in the FEI 5 Year old championships!!!Viki and Flash are the first alternates for the 4 year old championships. Huge congrats to Viki!!

July '12: Off to Lexington, VA we went with the goal of getting our last score for the USEF/Markel 5 Year Old Championships. Leo blew the judges away!! Even with a big spook from a golf cart flying by the arena we scored 8.04!!! Had it not been for the spook, which dinged our submission score, we would have been in the mid 8 range! Goldie has been going along for the ride to support little brother and has been schooling fantastically at the shows. This has turned out to be a nice bonus. He is so much more settled and confident in the show environment now!

June '12:We had a great show in St Louis! Leo scored over 75% at First Level Test 3 and 8.2 and 7.96 in the FEI 5 Year old test! Laurie and Diamond scored over 66.5% st Intermediare 1 and finished 4th in the PSG Jackpot class. Viki and Flash got their final qualifying score for the USEF 4 year old championships. They average 7.95 now!! Bonjardim and Triana made successful debuts to the show ring. We had a very busy and successful weekend!

2012 Starts with a clean sweep!

May '12 : It's great to be back in the ring! Leo was a star in his 1st First Level Test scoring over 72% in First Level Test 3. He went on the next day to score 7.34 in the FEI 5 year old qualifier. He was a bit tense and it wasn't his best test but who can blame him after all of the Arabians flying past the warmup ring in full costume!!

I'm so proud of my student and long time friend, Viki Meyers, with her new partner Gold Flash. They scored an amazing 82.6% in the USEF 4 year old qualifier and over 74% at training level. Viki is a former eventer and has made quite the debut into the dressage world.

Viki and I won every one of our classes, our level high point awards and between the two of us won all of the show championships and high point awards (well except JR/YR!!). Viki won a beautiful and huge trophy for the show Amateur High Point.

Dec 2011: A great finish to a great year. Goldie and Kim finish in the top 50 in the nation at Grand Prix for 2011. Goldie is 5th in the USDF All Breed Awards at Grand Prix. Leo is the North American Danish Warmblood Association Horse of the Year for 4 year olds and finished 5th in the USDF Horse of the Year rankings. I'm very proud of my boys!!

Laurie and Diamond finished 3rd in the USDF Region Championships at Prix St Georges. Goldie was reserve Champion at both Intermediare II and Grand Prix

2011 is off to a fantastic start!

April: Wow! What a start to the 2011 show year!! Goldie scores a 65.00% in our Intermediare II debut with great scores on our piaffe and passage! Leo really steals the show scoring an amazing 80.00% in the Markel USEF 4 Year Old qualifier after scoring 79.4% the day before!!! Leo has already qualified for Devon. What good boys.

May: Leo is qualified for the Markel/USEF Young Horse Championships! Goldie is qualified for Intermediare 2 at the USDF Regional Championships and we competed in our first Grand Prix.

Laurie Simons makes her Prix St Georges debut with Real Diamond scoring over 65% in her first Prix St George test. Way to go Laurie. The pair went on to earn their second qualifying score for the USDF regional championships the next day. Not bad for their first time showing at the FEI level!

June: USDF GOLD MEDAL!!! Goldie and I earn solid scores of 64.4% and 64.8% at Grand Prix also qualifying us at Grand Prix for the USDF Regional Championships! The judges love Goldie's passage. I'm excited to earn these scores even with mistakes in the tests. The Grand Prix with him is still very green and there is so much more in Goldie! Leo earns 78.80% in the young horse test qualifying him for the USEF/Markel Young Horse Championships with a very strong average of 7.96!! That puts him in the top 5 in the nation! Laurie and Diamond earn a 61% in their first Intermediare 1 at only their second show doing FEI!!

Our move to the new facility is really paying off. The horses are working great in such a wonderful environment and I've been able to make so much progress with horses and students over the past three months. With the heat of the summer kicking in I'm happy that the barn is keeping the horses comfortable and out of the extreme heat. The insulation and water cooled fans in the barn makes a huge difference.

2010 was a great year!

Goldie and I have really started to gel! We competed at several shows at PSG and Intermediare 1 with some good success and some great "learning experiences". Our breakthrough came in May when we scored 70.8% at Intermediare 1! We made the long drive out to Steamboat Springs and then Estes Park, Colorado for the Paragon CDI. We came home with two placing which was so exciting!

We earned our qualifying scores for the pretigious Devon CDI-W and decided to go. What a fabulous experience even with the 5 inches of rain. It was fantastic riding in the Dixon Oval.

2009 was a busy and successful year!

Kim and Golden Eye made the trip home from Germany and we welcomed Goldie to his new home in Memphis with a big party! Before departing Europe, Kim and Goldie were featured in a Dutch morning TV news show segment about horses flying aboard the national airline, KLM. The pair also competed at the Wintermuehle Dessage Festival in "M" and "S" Level classes.

Kim made the tough decision to sell her long time partner Concerto. The pair had been together since Concerto was 2. Kim had started him and brought him along through the levels. He is a strong small tour (Prix St Georges and Intermediare 1) horse but the Grand Prix was proving to be a stretch for him to do on a consistent basis. Kim felt that it was best for him to enjoy showing the small tour with a rider that he could teach. He's now bringing a junior rider along at Prix St Georges.

Kim and Stephan headed to Florida to participate in the USET Foundation fundraiser in Wellington in December. They were the demonstration riders for the Steffen Peters clinic portion of the program. Kim also arranged for German World Champion vaulter Kai Vorberg to participate. Kai was a huge hit with his vaulting routine done to Saturday Night Fever music!

Kim's horses and students won multiple year end Delta Dressage Championship awards including Intro, Training, First, Third (Reserve Champion), Fourth, Prix St Georges and Intermediare 1!!

Long time friend and client Laurie Dilworth Simons welcomes her son Ethan Simons into the world in July. He's officially the youngest student of Kim Gentry Dressage! He was on a horse riding dressage before he was born!!He's even competed at the Regional Championships at Third Level!

Kim and Jonah, owned by Ginny Pace,
scored two show high scores - 76+% and 75+%. The pair place 7th in the Region 1 USDF Regional Championships in a very competitive field of over 30 horses. Jonah finished 3rd at training level in the USDF HOY FHANA awards with a median of 70.400%.

Kim and Gabriel, also owned by Ginny Pace, competed successfully at First Level winning many classes and competing at the Region 1 Regional Championships finishing a fraction of a point out of the ribbons in a very large class of almost 40 horses! Gabriel finished 3rd at First Level in the USDF HOY FHANA awards.

Real Diamond, owned by new baby mom Laurie Simons, and Kim make their mark at Prix St Georges and Intermediare 1 winning classes at the Kentucky Horse Park. Diamond's third Intermediare 1 was at the Regional Championships! Kim has brought Diamond along from a green Third Level horse to a lovely FEI horse who really loves his job.

Kim's student, Hillary Martin, continues to hold her own in Germany. Hillary was a student of Kim's from her Pony Club days up to moving to Germany to start her professional career. Hillary and Farwick's Fallaby are now part of the Wintermuehle team in Germany. Go Hillary! Keep making us proud.

UPDATE: Hillary returned to the States in 2011 and spent a year working out of Lilo Fore's facility in Santa Rosa, CA. During that time she qualified and competed in the Brentina Cup at the Festival of Champions and successfully competed Fallaby up to Grand Prix. She and her eventing partner are now based out of Palo Alto, CA and running a successful business there.

Beth Sypniewski and her quarter horse Baxter show what a star he is! The pair started their dressage career by showing how its done. They earned several scores between 70 and 75% winning the Delta Dressage year end Championship at Intro!

Mitzi takes Gabriel for a spin with owner Ginny Pace!

Riding with Kim is challenging, rewarding, and a blast! Her instruction gives her students a clear, concise, prioritized set of goals based on the classical training scale. With Kim's methods, I never find myself asking "what is more important?" Her explanation of the training scale and the theory behind it makes for logical and certain progress. After your horse has spent continuing education hours with Kim, you can really see the training scale at work. All of the things you read from the masters and have hoped for truly DO WORK! The result: a happy, fit, mentally and physically supple horse AND a very satisfied, enlightened rider.
